It is a gorgeous day here in Louisville this Mother’s Day morning. I took a prayer walk and filled my senses; the cool air on my skin, the sweet smell of the crimson clover hay, especially pungent as the farmers cut the field down yesterday, hearing the birds singing out their songs, seeing green everywhere and the blue skies with a few white clouds. And a turtle who I believe was a mom turtle. She was sun bathing on a log in a pond with two smaller turtles behind her. A male and female mallard duck were splashing next to her and the log she was sitting on. She was totally oblivious to the their activity, in her own zone, meditating zen-like, quiet and still. I thought of mothers everywhere, wishing them a quiet, peaceful morning, no matter what was going on in their world. A morning filled with joy and peace.

I realize there are all kinds of ways to be a mother, and I salute everyone who has taken on this role in one form or another. Whether we are mothering a child or another family member, a friend, a co-worker, a neighbor, a pet or other animals, or even a stranger, I believe it all makes a difference. It all counts. It is all an opportunity to care well for another being.

I thought of Mother Earth, too. All she gives me, and that I belong to her, just like all the forms of life all around me belong to her. It brought tears to my eyes, thinking of all the gifts she gives me. What a lucky girl I am!

Enjoy the lavender-blue irises and white anemones photo bouquet I am sending you for all you do in caring for other beings. The irises are called A Six Pack, as all six petals will fold back sharing their stunning selves!
