All Here Now

A blog about a life… my life, that may be a lot like yours.

I sometimes forget
that I was created for Joy.

My mind is too busy.
My Heart is too heavy
for me to remember
that I have been
called to dance
the Sacred dance of life.

I was created to smile
To Love
To be lifted up
And to lift others up.

O’ Sacred One
Untangle my feet
from all that ensnares.
Free my soul.
That we might
Dance
and that our dancing
might be contagious.

Hafez, 14th Century poet

Meet Joan Durbin

“I am in love with life, and life is in love with me.”

My name is Joan Durbin. I am a long-time nurse gone writer. Yet being a nurse will
always be part of my signature, hence the symbol c with a line above it.
It is shorthand for the word ‘with’ in the medical field.
I love to write, so here I am with my own blog, going after my dreams. I want to
challenge myself with my own thinking, and perhaps as you follow me your
thinking will be challenged, too.
I am 66 years young and have had quite a bit of life experience. I am a survivor of
tongue cancer, and understand that life can be both incredibly beautiful
and incredibly challenging. I want to write about the people I meet,
to really see you and hear you, wherever I go.
I want to celebrate life, and see the wonder in not only the big things, but in the simple
things, too. To write about Mother Nature, the birds, and Grandmother Tree.
I want to share my thoughts on Faith, Hope, and Love. To write about some of the hard
times, and the goodness all around me. After all, it really is all here now!
So I will write, and I hope you join me in my posts. Together we will think, and laugh,
and cry. Let’s hold each other’s hands as we walk this journey. Let’s lift
each other up.

c
  Love, Joan

Games!

Have you ever wondered where board games came from? Or card games or puzzles? How long have they been around? Well, I have been wondering. The power of Google, right? This past weekend I played cards Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. I love to play cards! My...

Football!

For those of you that follow NFL pro football I'm sure you are aware that my Green Bay Packers lost to the Philadelphia Eagles this past Sunday in their play off game. A sad day for me as I would love for my team to end up in the Super Bowl again. The last time the...

Yesterday morning Reddogg and I walked across a five acre field that led across to an even larger field enclosed by a wire fence. Still covered with a thin layer of ice and packed snow beneath, I imagined the field was what it would be like to walk across the top of a...

Care Well for Yourself!

You've heard the old saying, "Once a nurse , always a nurse." It's true you know. I still observe how people walk, and if it is present in their gait I can detect a "hitch in their get along". I still can tell you if a person smokes by the sound of their voice, and I...

Winter Wonderland

Louisville, Kentucky and surrounding geographical areas have been transformed! This past Saturday several inches of snow arrived and Sunday night I do believe Jack Frost gleefully made his rounds with his buckets of ice. As a result I have been on three very different...

A Letter to You, Dear Reader

Dear Reader, Thank you for your support on my last post. You have all truly touched my heart with your response to my little temper tantrum related to my red face in treating possible precancerous cells. For sure, a valid temper tantrum and one that needed to be...

This Anger I Can’t Contain

"God damn it, Vicky." I stared across the virtual zoom screen at my beloved Reverend Vicky after these words came out of my mouth. She is not only my minister but like a sister to me. And I knew I was in trouble then. Not because of the words I said but because...

Home

I am in a sentimental mood today. I returned home yesterday after visiting with my oldest daughter Beth and her family for the Christmas holiday. I had a wonderful time with my daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren. But like most of us when we travel out of town, it...

Piece of Cake!

The photo above is the picture of the homemade jam cake my generous sister-in-law Pam gave me this past Saturday night, that beautiful Lady. I had joined my four brothers and their wives, along with four cousins and two of their husbands, at a local restaurant for...

It’s Sun!

Back in November of this past year, on the second Friday evening, November 8th, I was walking across the small campus of Arts of Living Retreat Center in North Carolina. It was a beautiful night, cold, yet clear, and I was surrounded by the majestic mountains, rising...
